Janemary Ruhundwa

Executive Director

(LLM; with over 12 years of work experience in areas of human rights and governance, policy development, training and NGO management).

Ms. Janemary Ruhundwa is currently the Executive Director at DIGNITY Kwanza. She has over 12 years experience in human rights and governance, policy development, training and NGO management. She has served as the Country Director of Asylum Access Tanzania (AATZ) a national office of Asylum Access, a US-based International Refugee Rights Organization with a mission to make refugee rights a reality. While in this position Ms. Ruhundwa also served as the chair of the Tanzania Refugee and Migration Network (TAREMINET) and was a member of the National Anti-Trafficking Committee. Prior to joining Asylum Access, Ms. Ruhundwa worked for UNHCR as an Assistant Protection Officer, and with Tumaini University as an Assistant Lecturer. She holds an LLM and LLB from University of Dar es Salaam, a Diploma in International Relations and Diplomacy from the Center for Foreign Relations, and a Human Rights Certificate from Malmo University (Sweden). Ms. Ruhundwa is also an Acumen Fellow 2014, and International Visitors Leadership Program (On Refugee and Migration Issues) Alumni, a co- author of “Between a Rock and Hard Place – Urban Refugees in Tanzania” (published in the Africa law Today, Vol. 4, Issue 1 (2012)) and spoke in the TEDxIlala 2015 event about ideas on current models of protecting refugees (see video here).

Mwajabu Khalid

Legal Services and Advocacy

(LLB; Managed programs that assist unprivileged populations to realize their rights, including legal representation and advocacy before national and regional human rights bodies for over 7 years).

Mwajabu Khalid is the Legal Services and Advocacy Manager at DIGNITY Kwanza. She is a human rights advocate, devoted to promoting and protecting the rights of poor and marginalized people. She has been tirelessly spearheading the advocacy program of the rights of vulnerable and marginalized population including refugees, asylum seekers, women and children for more than 7 years. She manages programs that assist unprivileged population to realize their rights including individualized legal advice, court and out of court representation on civil and criminal matter, and immigration cases. She also litigates before the regional human rights bodies. Mwajabu holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) from University of Dar es Salaam and she is licensed to practice in the High Court of Tanzania.

Rashid Nyembo

Operations and Finance

Has a degree in Management of Social Development, has attended several trainings on financial management of NGOs and has worked as Operations and Finance Manager for over 7 years.

Rashid H. Nyembo is the Operations and Finance Manager at DIGNITY Kwanza. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Management of Social Development and a Certificate in Financial Management of NGOs; he also took a module in Human Rights. Rashid has more than 7 years’ experience in Finance and Operations sector. Having worked with Asylum Access – Refugee Solutions, Tanzania (a US-based International Refugee Rights Organization) from 2011 to 2018, Rashid was the head of Administration, Operations and Finance with the aim to ensure the office runs smoothly.

Nondo Nobel

Resource Mobilization, M&E and External Relations

(MSc. HRM; with more than 7 years of work experience in fundraising and grants management, monitoring and M&E, economic empowerment, community services and partnership development.

Nondo Nobel Bwami is currently the Resource Mobilization, M&E and External Relations Manager at DIGNITY Kwanza. He has a proven leadership and experience in fundraising and grants management, donor cultivation and relations, monitoring and evaluation, economic empowerment, refugee rights programs, and partnerships. Nondo holds an MSc in Human Resource Management from Mzumbe University and a Certificate in Forced Migration Studies from University of Oxford (UK). Nondo is passionate about human rights, peace, development and poverty reduction. Having worked with Asylum Access, a US-based International Refugee Rights Organization, as the Development and Community Empowerment Coordinator for more than 7 years, Nondo helped thousands of urban refugees to access livelihoods and self-reliance opportunities, refugee rights workshops and led refugee work rights campaigns to success. Nondo has knowledge of conflict resolution, peace-building, post-conflict reconstruction and reconciliation processes; he is interested in influencing public policies for community empowerment and social welfare. Nondo is a multi-lingual communicator with strong presentation skills, public speaking skills, research skills and effective interviewing techniques. Nondo is the co-author of, “Dar es Salaam, Tanzania: A Case Study of Refugees in Towns” and the author of the article, “It Takes Courage to be a Refugee”.

Edward Chimbenje

Jovin Ashery Sanga

Empowerment, Support and Targeted Development programs

(LLB, Theology; with over 8 years of experience in management of community banks, project coordination, economic empowerment and women and children human rights.

Jovin Ashery Sanga is the Senior Community Empowerment and Grants Officer at DIGNITY Kwanza. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB); and he has also attended other specific courses including Theology; Formation and Management of Village Community Banks and, Child Rights Course. He has been working as a human rights activist since 2010 and has worked with different organizations including Tanzania Women Lawyers Association (TAWLA), Tanzania Widows Association (TAWIA) and Asylum Access - Refugee Solution Tanzania (AATZ). He has worked as a Legal Advisor; Human Rights facilitator; Paralegal Trainer; Project Coordinator, Clients’ affairs and counseling officer; Community Banks’ facilitator and Community Economic Empowerment Officer. He has also worked as an independent consultant on translation, facilitation and research.

Bishara Msalam

Program Officer

Bachelor’s degree in Law and Shariah (LLB) from Zanzibar University. She has more than 3 years experience in forced migration working to provide legal assistance, consultations, direct and indirect court representation to refugees and other vulnerable persons.

Bishara Msallam is the Program Officer at DIGNITY Kwanza with a special focus on Legal aid, community empowerment as well as women and girls’ rights. Bishara is an advocate of the high court of Tanzania, and she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law and Shariah (LLB) from Zanzibar University. She has more than 3 years experience in forced migration working to provide legal assistance, consultations, direct and indirect court representation to refugees and other vulnerable persons.

Catherine Ringo

Associate Program Officer

She is a devoted Human rights lawyer holding a Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB); She is also expecting admission to become the Advocate of the High Court of Tanzania very soon.

Catherine Ringo is the Associate Program Officer at DIGNITY Kwanza with a focus on Legal Assistance, Community Empowerment, and Grants. She is a devoted Human rights lawyer holding a Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB); She is also expecting admission to become the Advocate of the High Court of Tanzania very soon. She tirelessly provides legal aid, legal education and skills on economic empowerment and support to vulnerable populations in Tanzania. While working with Action for Justice Tanzania In 2016 she advocated for women and children’s rights and awareness rising against gender based violence and she also provided legal education to paralegals. In 2017, Catherine worked with Locus Attorneys, a corporate firm, as legal officer. In 2018, Catherine Joined Asylum access - Refugee Solutions Tanzania as a volunteer legal advocate. Catherine has competency in alternative dispute resolution, and strong child protection management skills.

Faith Mario Mjalilla

Program Officer

Faith is an advocate of the High Court of Tanzania holding a Bachelor’s degree in Law from Mzumbe University.

Faith Mario Mjalilla is the Program Officer at DIGNITY Kwanza with a special focus on legal aid, policy advocacy, communications and Children’s Rights. Faith is an advocate of the High Court of Tanzania holding a Bachelor’s degree in Law from Mzumbe University. She has 2 years experience working in the field of forced migration specifically providing Individualized legal advice, consultations, direct and indirect court representation to refugees, asylum seekers and other vulnerable migrants in Tanzania.
